Victory for Senior Hurlers

Our senior hurlers began their campaign this afternoon with a win over Ahane in the All County Hurling League. Every time these sides meet it’s an intense, entertaining game and this was no different.

The first half was close from the start and very much point-for-point for the 30 minutes. Full forward Bernard Crowe was denied a goal near the end of the half which was a relief from an Ahane perspective as it kept them in contention and ensured there was nothing between the teams at the break when the scoreboard read 6 points a piece.

Doon maintained good possession from the beginning of the second half and settled early with a point from Crowe. This was followed by two goals from Cathal McNamara & Michéal Ryan. Doon pushed ahead with a pointed free from Ryan who added another two to this tally in the following ten minutes. A huge point from Eddie Kiely at his own centre back line was to be Doon’s last score of the game at around the 20 minute mark. It was after this that Ahane got their first score of the second half – a free converted to a point. They followed it up with a goal & a last point but had run out of time to catch up and at the final whistle Doon were victors 2-11 to 1-8. A win for Doon in this game also counted as a win in the first round of the East Senior Hurling Championship. Well done!
