It was a great night for Doon Camogie Club when our under 14 girls came from behind in the dying minutes to defeat Treaty Gaels in the County B League Plate Final. The Gaels were strong in the first half and Doon did well to stay in touch with their opponents. We went in at half time down by just a single point thanks to a great individual goal by Ann Hayes and a lovely point by Stephanie Beary. The Treaty girls stretched their lead to 3 points mid-way through the second half and lead by 1-4 to 1-1 with only five minutes left. It was at this stage that the Doon girls showed their true character to dominate the closing stages. With Nicole Coleman leading from defence and Ann Hayes always a threat going forward Doon began to dominate. A point from a free by Claire McNamara set the game up for a pulsating finish and when Alex English scored Doon's second goal we took the lead for the first time in the match. The performance was capped off by a second goal for Ann Hayes to leave Doon victorious on a scoreline of 1-4 to 3-2. All the girls can be really proud of their performance on the night which ended with the club winning its first silverware since our establishment 15 months ago.
