Doon overcame Ballybrown last night to secure their place in the U21 county semi-final.
Conditions were perfect for this quarter-final clash in Bruff with two teams who were well matched on paper at the outset. The first half was fast paced with possession divided almost equally among both teams. Doon led by 2 points at the interval with 6 points to Ballybrown’s 4 points.
While it’s fair to say Doon had the better of Ballybrown for most of the second half, the boys from the city didn’t offer us an easy victory. Points from Michael Barry kept Doon ahead but we were forced to defend hard in the last 10 minutes especially with a number of frees awarded to Ballybrown. At the 60 minute mark Doon were ahead by only 1, but centre-back Cathal McNamara ensured his free went over the bar for the last puck of the game. Final score Doon 13 points, Ballybrown 11 points.
