The U21s got their championship campaign off to the best of starts with a win over Adare last night in the Gaelic Grounds. After a lacklustre start by both teams, Michael Barry put Doon on the scoresheet with two points from frees. A point from Tony Joe Berekery and a goal from mid-fielder John Hayes went unanswered by Adare so as the teams headed to the dressing room for half-time the scoreboard read 1-3 to no score in favour of Doon.

The second half was a more fluid affair and Doon started fast with 3 points in quick succession from Michael Barry, Dean Coleman and Tony Joe Berekery. Adare found it difficult to make scores from their possession and managed just 3 points that were well spread out through the 30 minutes. Doon were denied a few goal chances in the last quarter, as were Adare, but Ger McPartland put one in the back of the net for Doon at the very end. Final score Doon 3.9, Adare 3points.
