Féile na nGael 2013

Last weekend was a great one for Doon GAA club as we were hosting Féile Na nGael 2013. The event began on Friday (5th July) in Doon with matches against our visiting teams - Castletown Geoghegan from Westmeath in hurling and Kilmaley of Clare in camogie. Unfortunately we lost both games but it was soon forgotten as we then had to head off to Limerick for the parade. After the parade all the players returned to their host families and had matches the following day to look forward to. On Saturday, the girls travelled to Parteen in Clare to play the remaining rounds of matches, winning against Longford Slashers and losing narrowly to Parteen. The hurlers played their remaining rounds at home in Doon, losing to St. Rynaghs of Offaly but then inflicted a heavy defeat to Adare in their last match. It was a fantastic weekend overall which was helped greatly by the magnificent weather. Well done to all involved. Thanks to all players, parents, families and the parish for their support over the weekend and throughout our fundraising campaign all year ahead of Féile. Thanks especially to our organising Committee without whom this fantastic weekend wouldn’t have been possible.
