Doon v Na Piarsaigh - County Senior League

We almost had the better of the 2011 county champions Na Piarsaigh in our county league meeting with them last Tuesday night in Doon! However, in what some would say was a fair result on the night, referee Denis Richardson blew the final whistle at 3-12 a piece. The pitch in Doon was, as always, in great condition, but the rain that fell before and during the game made the surface difficult to play on for the teams. It was tooth-and-nail for the whole 60 minutes. Doon were spurred by two first half goals from the stick of corner forward Pat Ryan; the first of which was only 8 minutes into the game and was well-assisted by his centre forward David Stapleton. Doon were fast to the ball and played a tough game. With the help of accurate free taking, we saw ourselves 2 points to the good at half time (2-6 to 1-7). The second half was just as intense with Na Piarsaigh setting  their intentions straight when they scored a goal just 2 minutes into the half. There were plenty more scores to come though including two perfectly on- target points from mid-field’s Denis Moloney. Twenty five minutes into the half we were four points up courtesy of David Stapleton hitting the back of the net but conceded a goal and two points in a very short space immediately afterwards leaving us to rely on a Cathal McNamara free to level it at 3-12 all.

The table now shows Na Piarsaigh with 11 points, Doon with 10 points; although we have a game in hand (our last in the league) where we play Murroe Boher this Saturday evening in Boher at 7.30pm.
