Doon had a fantastic start to their County Senior Hurling Championship campaign in Bruff this evening recording a 1 point victory over opponents Patrickswell. Two substitutes were our goal heroes of the match - number 22 Pat Ryan who started in the full forward position hit the back of the net twice - once in either half. Wearing number 27, Dean Coleman replaced Roger Maher early in the second half and after just four minutes on the field, he had his name of the scoresheet with a much-needed goal assisted by Roger Ryan. A good team performance by Doon shone through as we led for the entire first half, with the exception of the opening 3 minutes when Patrickswell scored the first point of the game. At half time, our Pat Ryan goal was the difference as we led 1-7 to 0-7. Corner forward Micheal Ryan scored a point from a free at the start of the second half and we were to score just four more times before the end of the game - those precious two goals and a point each from Pat Ryan and Cathal McNamara. While Patrickswell had 11 points in the second half, they could have had many more as they saw a number of frees go outside the posts. As the final whistle approached, they were creeping up on our lead scoring points at the 26th, 27th and 29th minute, but we had the strength to hold out and had time on our side and at the end the scoreline was in our favour by just one point - Doon 3-10 Patrickswell 0-18.
